Endodontics
Endodontics, one of nine specialties recognized by the American Dental Association, is the branch of dentistry dealing with treatment of the inside of the tooth, or dental pulp.
The most common reason that your general dentist may refer you to an endodontist is for a root canal. You may also be referred to an endodontist to locate the cause of hard to diagnose oral or facial pain.
While general dentists receive some endodontic training, endodontists complete at least two years of specialized training that allows them to diagnose and treat more complicated conditions.
